After a 16-month hiatus, the Emmy-winning mob drama triumphantly returns with a strong episode written by series creator David Chase.
The fourth season opens with Carmela (Edie Falco) worried about the slumping economy and her family's financial future should something happen to Tony (James Gandolfini). Concerned about contributing to Uncle Junior's defense fund, Tony is also anxious about cash flow and lights a fire under his crew to start making more money. To that end, he also meets with Assemblyman Zellman (Peter Riegert) to discuss an entrepreneurial scheme in Newark.

The extended Soprano clan has problems of their own. Meadow (Jamie Lynn-Sigler) is still in a funk over the murder of delinquent mob scion Jackie Aprile Jr. death, and her brother, A.J. (Robert Iler), continues to struggle with his schoolwork.

Meanwhile, on the (almost) married-to-the-mob front, Janice (Aida Turturro) myopically sets her sights on another undesirable lover, and Adriana develops a new friendship with Danielle (Lola Glaudini), an undercover FBI agent. Meanwhile, Paulie is reacting angrily to his jail sentence, and Christopher is also in a foul mood because of the way Tony has been treating him lately. But that changes when the boss gives him some advice that leads to a very satisfying reward. Johnny Sack: Vincent Curatola. Bobby: Steven R. Schirripa.

I was really missing out all these years. One day two or three weeks ago I decided it was about time to get in on this shit after thinking about it for months. As of last night, I finished the ninth episode of season three, "The Telltale Moozadell."

Overall, I hate to say it, but this episode wasn’t as good as the first, second, or third. What really gets me is the fact that this isn’t due to a lack of ideas. On the contrary, they had many ideas and just didn’t seem to follow through with them. I don’t rank this season fourth due to a lack of whacking, but simply because too much time passed with nothing happening. There were funny moments though; the Columbus Day Parade comes to mind.

At least the last two episodes redeemed a lot of it. I think they were both absolutely wonderful, and with that I finish the fourth season with a smile on my face, even though I had bad things to say about everything before it.
