Hinduism

I recently explored Hinduism and tried to obtain a rudimentary understanding of the relationships between the various gods, their followers and the benefits gained from being loyal to a god or set of gods...

I understand that of the trinity of main gods (Brahma[creation], Vishnu[preservation] and Shiva[destruction]) only Vishnu and Shiva are worshipped and not Brahma so much.

In Hinduism, do new devotees choose their gods or do the gods choose them? Are you assigned a god/gods? I myself have really begun to identify with Shiva and his wife's "energetic" form Kali.

Where do I go from here?

try to take a step back on the gods part. one of the best things about hinduism is that at the core, all of life is but a dream.

Not sure who you've been talking to, but that sounds like a very watered down version of Hinduism. I practiced Hinduism/Vaisnavism for about 12 years and lived as a celebate monk in a Krishna temple in Los Angeles for a bit. Id be happy to answer any questions you have... although this thread is years old. lol
