New computer build.

So about 6 months ago I decided to build a new computer, I don't have the funds to buy one right out and I am not stupid enough to finance one.

SO the build began.

First ordered the case and mobo.

Then 2 gigs of RAM

Intel Core 2 duo E6600 + RAM installed, I did move the RAM though I had it in the wrong slots I believe. Or one was.

Wireless keyboard and mouse

Also got a Liteon DVD burner installed and YES I am gonna run Vista, don't trip, I HAVE A XP system as well.

video card you say? I am ordering THIS today

Also I have a 400 gig hard drive installed

Like I said this is my first build and I am learning. I may need to swap out the powersupply? I only have a 450 watt one.

But anyway we will see where this monstrosity ends up later this week I hope

Nice, I like Vista (once you make some modifications, like user access control, etc.) and from what I hear Nvidia finally got the drivers working alright (they were slacking big time). I need to start piecing me a new desktop together, mine is about end of life and the hard drive is on its way out.

I think most people having issues with vista are putting it in old machines anyway. I did order "Windows Vista Premium 64 bit" I heard to install the 32 bit for now, cause of more 32 bit support and upgrade it to 64 bit later? I will be using my current Samsung 20" widescreen LCD as well the 5.1 Logitech sound I already have. Oh and the MOBO is a Asus P5B deluxe WiFi-AP edition.

Finished throwing a few more things in tonight, I tried to get better pics but all I have is my stupid cell camera. The big assed video card should arrive today sometime, so hopefully I get that beast in and get to toy with it after work.

A few more things plugged in

Back of case

All its glory awaiting video card

Oh and bored one night I threw in my old stuff in the new case

Of course I will add more RAM, Hard drives later on, this MOBO supports up to 8 gigs of RAM.

Time for Crysis to come out now, I am curious to play a game in DirectX 10

Well I guess I can just go get Supreme Commander? I think thats already out?

Will probably also add a Dvico fusion HDTV gold card

You need a hektik sticker... it has been proven in several case studies that by having a hektik.org sticker on your computer - it will run a lot faster.

Good plan, If I run across one I will throw it on, did you give any to Stan? Actually I am on the new system right now, everything seemed to boot up with no problems? Minus I hurried and installed the video card, installed vista and everything before work, I left the computer running and when I got home it was shut off? I have no Idea what shut it off, I need to figure out this Vista shit a little better, plus I need to set up my other desk so I can turn the old computer on and network them together.

Anyway off to setting up desk and letting this run and see if it shuts itself off again.

Oh and BTW that video card I put in is fucking huge. hopefully I am not overheating anything.

Ok while I have a second.

Big ass video card.

You can see how much space it took up on the mobo

In the Vista "Windows experience" Option it rates my computer at a 5.3, with 5.9 being the highest and 1 being the lowest.

I was finally able to watch the full screen, HD transformers trailers, WOW that was awesome, my other computer would barely even try to play the smallest version of them.

Have not had any issues yet, I think with a high end system Vista is not all that bad really. It did take me a minute to figure out how to find the TCP-IP so I could set up port forwarding.

Now I just need more than a 20" wide screen

Edit....I am finding a few useful things HERE

If any body else has any Vista tips let me know.

So I finally added the HDtv card and its pretty cool. I am picking up a few peoples digital cable with it, Kinda weird watching something then it changes channels on ya. LOL

Screen shot from the other day when I was flipping through the HD channels.

All in all this machine is running pretty good, I have had a few crashes here and there, Not sure why everybody is scared of Vista? I guess if you do have an old machine and such it might be best to avoid it.

Yeah, it does force you to upgrade - but oh well. Computing is met to be in the fast lane.

Upgraded my monitor from a 20" to a 37"

Also went out and picked up Crysis. This game kicks ass, although I cannot run it on very high, I am thinking a second 8800 video card, more ram and a quad core are in my future.

It's an LCD HDTV capable of up to 1080i

I have Vista set to 1360 X 768 if I go any higher everything is almost unreadable cause it's so small. I am also running a DVI to HDMI cable to make it look more pretty. Everything looks great especially stuff like Planet Earth on at least 720p

I may have to get a HDMI switch box seeing it only has one HDMI plug in the back.

Typing this post I am sitting a good 5' away from the screen and can see everything just fine.

Kinda hard to take a pic of something so damn bright with a shitty cellphone camera.

ah, it's a tv, not a monitor... so this is meant to be operated from your couch and not a desk chair?

yeah seems once you get past 20 something inches they label them as tv's. Seeing I got wireless, I can sit at my desk or anywhere else in the room.
