Fanboyism...

i pwn n00bs

... "I defeat, in a humiliating manner, those who are inexperienced at the games that I play." - Jarett Cale

That's the essence of a gamer right there. Sure, some of you may argue that gaming is about meeting people, having fun, or a story. But for most players outside of the RPG genres, gaming is about pwning (pronounced: owning, yes I know it's a 'p'). But at what cost do we commit to pwning? Do we sacrifice our speech, health, or even identity in the pursuit of ownage?

This bleeds into one's fanboyism. Do you turn a shady eye to that playstation 3 because you feel that nintendo is a better game developer and brought you through your childhood? Maybe that's the low extent of your fanboyism. Or maybe you cross to the extreme and change the way you dress to incorporate a larger array of "WTF?" "GTFO" "- i pwn n00bs -" and "stfu" t-shirts. For me it's gone to the point of using internet slang unconciously in RL. For example I say "lol" upon occasion. My nephew fell down the stairs the other day and stood up as if to say "wtf was that!?" and the first thing out of my mouth was a laughter-infested "LOL!"

It's no secret that my favorite show is the internet TV show Pure Pwnage. But in truth i am a huge fan of anything that targets internet/gaming culture and makes it funny, without mocking it. I can't stand collegehumor.com because it's overrun with frat boys that all own xbox 360s, but won't admit to being gamers, a lot the way many anti-gays and homophobes are actually gay and is the basis for their lashing out against the lifestyle. I'd recomment the e-comics of Real Life, ctrl-alt-del, and little-gamers to anyone who's not familiar with them. Count me in as a fanboy!

Whatever you are pro at, whatever thing you may fanboy yourself to, I just have one word of advice: you must pwn or be pwned. Don't be a noob.

Granted it has many forms on many subjects, I am a gamer fanboy and that's all I know about first-handedly. I guess I sub-class that with movies. Movies are pretty pro imo and I put a fair amount of energy into making sure that people know how much some movies own.

Some people view being a fanboy as a bad thing, some view it as a good thing. I lean more towards it being a good thing. It's the fanatical appreciation of our loves and interests and the outward expression of those things we each enjoy. Some people get tattoos, some of us buy t-shirts, but ultimately we are all fanboys in our own way (or fangirls =P hehe). The only real difference is the subject matter. Do you pwn n00bs? or are you 31337 hax0r man? perhaps you're programmer extraodinaire... for me--i pwn n00bs. CS 1.6, SC:BW, and WoW.

How about it? What are you a fanboy of?

PS2 - SOCOM US Navy SEaLs. I pwn n00bs.

Mostly it's a bunch of friendly Chicagoeans (and thereof adjacent states), that get drunk and kill off each-other. I've been doing that 2 days a week for around 7 years now. SOCOM fuckin owns.

I consider myself a fanboy of just about anything zombie related (that includes the director as well... can't wait till Halloween comes out). I have a massive collection of modern and old zombie movies. The dollar bin at discount stores is a good place to get otherwise impossible to find/get/hoard kinds of movies.

I am also a fan of the Doom series and RPG's that don't suck too badly.

And as a programmer, I know quite a few languages (and some to a ridiculously extensive amount). I prefer using bastardized combinations of Visual Basic, Assembler, and GML based languages. Why? Because I'm a lazy programmer.

Cobo, indeed. Good follow-up.

I was at a bachelor party last week. We were at a strip club on the south-side of Chicago called Sky Box. Man, there was one fine Asian girl there. My neighbor (who attended the party) is an asian fanboy as well. Me, I'm more a fanboy of punk-rock girls.

The Oregon is the place to go for strip clubs...

As for the games, I just got my copy of Leisure Suit Larry on a single floppy!

When I was staying with Acidprime, a few years back, I wanted to check out a few. Too bad I didn't. If Oregon was a butcher house, Portland had a lot of prime rib.

I miss Portland, just a little.

I like razordolls (site - NWS). The previews have me drawn, already. They remind me of SuicideGirls, but hardcore. Reagan, Nixon, or Quinne... Mmm, my favorites. I saw their burlesque show, here in Chicago. It was too awesome for words.
