How does the Utah State Tax Commission get its head so far up its ass?
What does the Utah State Tax Commission do with your money? Find new and interesting ways of shoving their head up their asses! I don’t mind paying taxes to a point, we have to pave roads, pay for police, fire, and emergency services. What I don’t understand is why we have to pay for one of the largest organizations of incompetence in Utah, the Utah State Tax Commission.
Like most of you, I am doing my taxes. Everyone does it this time of year, and if you don’t the government will own your ass for longer then you would like to think about. The Utah State Tax Commission tries to make this process as easy as possible, right? Well apparently not. Here is the scenario; last year I electronically filed my state taxes from a friend’s computer that had TurboTax State Edition. This year Utah has a new website for filing your taxes. I thought great, I have filed a paperless return for several years now, and this is an easier way to do it. Well, according to the Utah State Tax Commission I don’t qualify for this. Why you ask. Well that is a damn good question, so I called them. After the obligatory waiting on hold and being transferred to a “specialist” I ended up with a monkey wearing a headset reading from a script. Here is the logic (what he told me) of the Utah State Tax Commission:
1. If you electronically filed last year with any tax program or institution you are expected to do it again this year.
2. If you tele-filled (filled by phone), or did a paper file last year, you might have been given the choice.
So as a logical person I was thinking, ok I will have them change it so I can file electronically. Well it turns out that NO ONE thought about that, and that is not an option. They/You have no way to change how you can file your taxes. So what it comes down to is I have to paper file for the first time is 6 years! Welcome Utah to the technology age, don’t get a paper cut!
