Well I have seen it before but now it comes to Salt Lake and once again I have not heard it mentioned on the radio or news. The crime is simple and takes very little effort, and very little money to pull off. The criminal can use a simple device to capture the codes off of people’s garage door openers from just being in the vicinity of the target, or even easier you can get a transmitter that will go through and try to hit the factory default codes and work its way up. What even makes this crime better for criminals is that the targets that were hit early this morning around 2 a.m. is that the marks were unsuspecting of this crime, this ends up being shitty for the victim. For instance with this mornings incident; there were 5 houses hit, one of them had two vehicles inside the garage and both had keys in their ignition. I am also willing to bet that the door from the garage into the house was unlocked as well. One of his vehicles had a GPS tracking unit and was returned but the other did not, and what is worse is what if these had been violent criminals or if they were looking to get more than just cars. Well I figured I would mention this for any that have these same habits. Also it is not a bad idea to invest in a decent garage door opener that is designed especially to defend against this type of attack.
