Anatomy of a bad week

Sunday 28th
-----------
Got a nasty cold and a sore throat that would have made
Pavarotti cringe. As a result, I could not make it to this
year’s Dragon Boat Festival race held on the Caudan
Waterfront, in the capital’s harbour.

Monday 29th
-----------
Organized an IRC meeting for answering the same old
repetitive questions of the Linux User Group mailing list
members but it turned out to be more of an
all-talk-no-solution gossip. In addition, my cold
worsened.

Wednesday 31st
--------------
Feeling much better. Learned that the karate team came in
third in the Dragon Boat race after loosing to the local
Wushu associations. Last year, we won the race though.

Later in the night, got in an argument online with the
Linux User Group secretary (and friend). My sarcastic
humour and ‘lack of seriousness’ was the cause of the
heated argument which followed through short IM messages.
As a result, he stepped down from his secretarial duties
and removed me from his buddy list; also the plans for the
group meeting scheduled for this incoming Saturday were
already sent tumbling.

Thursday 1st
------------
No sleep during the previous night. Tried to revise but in
vain. I officially cancelled Saturday’s meeting via the
mailing list as none of the managing committee members
(i.e me and the treasurer with no secretary) had the time
to organize it.

During the second IRC meeting of the Linux User Group of
Mauritius tonight, I was exposed by two close friends and
a distant one as “arrogant”, “hungry for glory” and with
an “elitist attitude” when presiding over the group. Heh.
Speaking about backstabbing. It was one of the longest
nights and in the end I came out disillussioned, hurt and
pissed off. Oh, well. Atleast some of the gossips died out
during some moments of the meeting.

Saturday 3rd
------------
Thought of stepping down as president of the group and
leaving the local Linux advocacy scene (after 5 active and
prolific years with the original user group I created).
Decided against it as I still need to patch some leaks and
settle the current group inline with its objectives.

More revisions late in the night, and till the early
morning.

Sunday 4th
----------
Rainy day. Arrived at the examination center at 09 00 with
a sandwidth and a bottle of water, which lasted till the
first exam at around 12 30. No opened shops could be found
in the vicinity selling food. Last exams ended at 17 30.
Took two buses to get home. Thank god it was not raining
but there winds were colder on the road.

That really sucks, I'm sorry! Hopefully this week will be better for you. Don't quit the linux thing just because some people are jelouse of you, just listen and ask more questions to them. ( Could even be questions that you know they don't know the answer to..) Keep your chin up

Thank you, guys and gal (thanks for the strong and effective words) for cheering me up! I really appreciate it. (^^)

I was just thinking of quiting the Linux advocacy scene and concentrate more on helping software projects. Else, spacegecko, I am with the Linux User Group of Mauritius. Don't let distance be a deterrant to worldwide LUGs coorperation.
