Politics, where to start?

So I am thinking of kicking off a debate or just an educational evening to inform and talk about issues in our government and society at the end of the summer. First thing I need to do is figure out exactly what it is that people would want to talk about (Things that not everyone knows about), and educate our youth on. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Someone has to work on spreading the word about what's really going on in America today, so why not us?

I would love to educate the masses on how Bush and liberalism is ruining this country.

How about how far overboard MADD and the DUI laws have become? It's highly unpopular, but is an issue that needs to be addressed.

Did you know that Dallas is starting to send uncover cops in to bars to arrest "drunks" to prevent "drunk driving" now? Even if those people didn't ever drive to the bar to begin with.

Or how about how they want to ban birth control, abortions, and not let sex ed be in most schools? Hell, lets make sure the kids don't know what they're doing, so that way when they have unprotected sex, they have a kid they don't want, and they get STDs they don't know about. Hooray us.


And we should also shoot pharmacists that think they have the right to deny anyone birth control because it's against their beleifs. It's your job to sell items in your store to people. So you do your fucking job. If it's against your beliefs to sell any of the items, find a new job.


And who remembers all the deaths and injuries that happened the last time abortions were banned throughout the country? Women taking coat hangers or flying to Peru to have a doctor do it that wasn't certified or sanitary.

Those are some really good topics. I am thinking about having more of an open discussion with the people running for office. Keep the ideas coming because I would like to have some set topics to talk about as well as some that come from students or the public.

why not talk about how the spread of democracy throughout the world has become more militarized in the past few years than it has ever been....

or why 'we' the american public is so bipolar into actually thinking its the politicians who are failing them.....
but then when you get 1/2 million illegal immigrants actually standing up for what they believe is just, even though they are breaking the law(which never got enforced when they delcared amnesty last)....they get shit done

politicians are perfect for the majority of us who are to busy balancing checkbooks...like me, I swallow most of my media without chewing

If these are federal politicians then you should talk about patents and copyright and how it affects the growth of technology and the economy. Bring up things like open source software and how people sitting on patents are stifling growth. I'm not an expert but I've read a tiny bit about it. It also hurts technology when someone patents something like how you click on something to buy something *cough* *amazon* *cough*. I guess you could talk about how this affects the little guy since a large portion of business are smaller than the big corporations and contribute greatly to our economy.
