Rain is a Beautiful Thing

Computer industry giant IBM is worried by the fact that the United States is falling far behind other developed nations in math and science, a fact that doesn't bode well for the future of the research-and-development-based computer industry in the U.S. IBM believes it can help remedy the situation by offering incentives to employees to quit their jobs with IBM and become teachers. Who better to teach math and science to school-age kids than people who obviously love the field and know practical applications of the materials?

Wil Wheaton discusses Powerbook upgrades.

RIAA uses P2P to find new hits, do market research, sue users who provide them with this data.

As I sit here enjoying an extremely rare lightning-and-thunder storm in Los Angeles (thanks to tropical storms and whatnot in the Pacific Ocean), I can't help but be amused that the World Meteorological Organization is running out of names for hurricanes.

The FBI is joining the Bush Administration's "War on Pornography." This time, they're going after legal porn that's marketed to adults.

The RIAA is pushing for copy-protected radio, of all things.

MasterCard to distribute 4 million RFID-enabled credit cards. Time to get working on those pocket-sized RFID readers with data recorders, eh? Either that or get working on a tinfoil wallet...

Re: Rain is a Beautiful Thing

IBM... what can't they screw up next?

RIAA... doesn't surprise me. It's already been proven much, if not all of the RIAA's claims are false, and merely produced in court to generate more needed revenue that will never go to their artists who should actually be paid for what they're worth. Copy protected radio? Analog recording anyone?

I wonder how long it's going to take until they start naming them after constellations and stellar objects... "This year's season, we start off with Hurricane Kowal's Object..."

The Bush Administration... Sounds like we're regressing to the McCarthy Era.

A day of messed up news indeeeeeeeed.
