They don't want junkies to travel! - I found my mind in long beach (part II)

The only light in the room was non-intrusive and off in the corner. Shalome was drinking whisky sours and I was sedated on the couch with my laptop, creating. After a short time she returned with yet another whisky sour and took her seat on the couch across from me. After taking a sip she placed the glass on the coffee table and picked up her guitar, it was now her time to create. What I was lucky enough to witness was no amateur night bullshit put on by those modern day beatnik types, but it was love… pure love. She made love to her music, her fingers worked so precise in setting up the road map for her voice and she delivered every word with fiery passion. This is how music was meant to be performed; this is when it’s beautiful and pure. Most of all it gave me comfort and this is something very few can do. I quickly lost interest in my laptop and the run in with the TSA agents and the narcotics officers at LAX was now a fading memory and I felt this haunting peace. I was now ready for my weekend.

It turned out to be a vacation for me, which is odd. Usually when I go out of town I am on a schedule. I have video to shoot and pictures to take, I have responsibilities and appointments to keep. I got most of this done but something happened there that night. That peace I talk about, it was finding my mind or at least peace of mind. I took walks on the beach and we hit up the boardwalk in Santa Monica and filmed some interesting homeless rants along with some classic street performers. I even got my fortune told by a psychic cat that was dressed in gypsy garb. We hit up a club called Miss Kitty’s, but by the time I got good and liquored up to kill the anxiety attacks I was told that I had to check in my camera gear with security. My guardian angel for this trip talked to the owner and I got to keep my gear – plus we got some free drinks for our inconvenience. Also in our adventures we made it to a good punk rock dive bar in Long Beach called Ferns, where the bartender made me one of the best dirty martini’s I have had in some time. The olives were a bit odd though, I have never had olives stuffed with almonds but they were not that bad. Amongst other things we drove down to Watts and ended up getting lost looking for the Watts towers but much to Shalome’s surprise we made it out alive. Another stop on tour de’ ghetto was Roscoe’s house of chicken and waffles because nothing says ghetto like a tummy full of greasy chicken and a pimp shirt to boot, not to mention when I got back to SLC I noticed more volume to my semen during ejaculation. The other side effect was that Roscoe’s chicken and waffles seemed to lube up my urethra, because that first load I shot – it went well over and beyond anything I have discharged in some time. Also in my adventures I was the lesser of the drunks on Friday night so I got to drive drunk in a foreign city from Hollywood to Long Beach with no blinkers, but I got everyone dropped off and home safe which impressed even myself. I was not impressed by the making it home safe part, when you get used to driving around with a head full of LSD and there are street lights bending down in front of you on a road that is rippling like breaking waves a little bit of booze in your system is a cake walk. I am more or less just proud I found home base, my guardian angel was now passed out next to me (so much for her watching me *grin*) and her last bit of directions were conflicting with the signs that I could barely read overhead.

On my last day we headed out to Costa Mesa where fireworks are legal and we celebrated the 4th the American way with good people, bar-b-q and booze. To prepare for a stress free return flight I consumed all of my remaining stash on the way to Costa Mesa and this was a bad idea, it made for an interesting return flight but it left me feeling like ass until I was able to put some food and booze on top of it. All I can say is thank goodness for the small airport Long Beach has, check-in was quick and the terminal was small which is perfect for people in my condition. The return flight was smooth, a graceful decent where you could see the whole valley lit up with illegal blasts of color. Upon returning to my car which was in short term parking I loaded up my bags, locked my doors, lit a clove cigarette and started walking towards the entrance to obtain a fresh parking validation. I hadn’t lost mine, but I am not paying $76.00 for 4 days of convenient parking and the new ticket gave me thirty minutes to return to my car and make my exit free of charge.

I want to thank the two people that made this trip possible. Rudeboy, LLC. which fully funded my travel and Shalome who took care of living quarters, transportation and she bought me a pimp ass Roscoe’s chicken and waffles t-shirt*. I also want to thank everyone there that I meant for being cool and showing me a good time. It was nice to hear a couple of you actually followed the site.

*On a side note while sitting in the Long Beach terminal waiting to board my plane another plane was letting its passengers off. An elderly black lady that walked by me without once making eye contact looked at my shirt and I watched her tongue sweep her lips ever so slightly as she softly mumbled - Mmm, Roscoe’s. …I couldn’t help but to grin.

The update:
There are some random photographs this week in the digiCam project. Also since a couple of local graffiti artists have showed an interest in the graffiti project I have started to add a few more pictures with some multi-angle shots so that they can have which ever they prefer, you can see these in this week’s graffiti project. Last but not least due to request there has been a new area added to the forums dedicated to both graffiti and street art, you can check that out here. As always I thank you for stopping in to this little hole in the wall, take care and I will be back at some point.

That rocks you had a good time. I love the westcoast. Just to see the mighty pacific, does it for me. If I was able to hang with shalome, oh god. Talk about a serious multiplier for a great time =)

Awesome post BTW.

You don't actually want to hang out with me, cold. I'm boring unless I'm shitfaced drunk.

I don't know why, but I get an awesome vibe from you. And the people who've mentioned you (here anyways), also seem to like you very much. So go ahead and call bullshit on me, but no! I really would like to come and kick it as well. If only Rudeboy's pocket's were a little deeper, I could've went to; ha!

(P.S. Rudeboy, I thought that was fucking rad to sport money for kenny's trip. If your in Chicago hit me up. I may not be able to get you, or anybody out here, but damn do I love to share a good scotch.)

Now if you both will excuse me, I'm at the apex of my day and want to enjoy my good mood while it lasts. Night.

Things kenny left out that I thought were funny:

A little girl in Santa Monica asked him "Hey mister, excuse me, but did it hurt when you did that? (pointing at kenny's ears)." He said no, and I gave a five-second explanation of ear-stretching, and the little girl's mom thought that was pretty cool.

Japanese kid runs up to Kenny on the Santa Monica pier and asks to take a picture of his ears. We joke that we're worried that Kenny's picture will probably wind up on the internet somewhere.

Kenny was disappointed with the lack of homeless bums in downtown Long Beach. He was also kind of surprised that most of Long Beach and Costa Mesa both looked like regular cities that you could find just about anywhere.

The ghetto family with the young daughter who was apparently named "LaTrine" -- as in "LaTrine, get yo goddamn ass ovah heah!" Me: "did she really just say her kid's name was LATRINE? She had to have said "LaTrice" or something" Kenny: "No, I'm pretty fucking sure she just called her kid "LaTrine."

This is pure genius. I can't believe I never thought of that.

And for a bit of trivia. My mom grew up in Watts when it was all white. lol
