Now that the FCC and the airlines have figured out that cellphones and wireless devices are okay to use on airplanes, the FBI and Homeland Security say these things still shouldn't be allowed -- at least, not until they can find a way to listen in.

Qmail pop3d remote root exploit on 64-bit systems -- "classical integer overflow, pointer with signed index and signedness problem (not counting the memory consumtion dos, which just helps)". Exploit code has been released, qmail security patches have not.

Sony BMG is getting ready to roll out "sterile burning" DRM, in which music owners can make a backup copy of a CD, but cannot burn further copies from that copy. How fast do you think it'll be before there's a workaround?

Massachusetts joins California lawmakers in being smart enough to say "fuck you" to the religious right as far as stem cell research is concerned. The law allowing embryonic stem cell research was vetoed by the governor, but the veto was immediately overturned by state lawmakers, allowing research to continue.

LAPD installs surveillence cameras in public places -- not to fight crime, but to help the MPAA catch people selling pirated DVDs on the streets. Meanwhile, the LA freeways still don't have surveillence cameras to catch the dipshits with guns who are shooting people in traffic.

Soldiers continue to die in Iraq because they don't have body armor or armored vehicles while Tom DeLay promises NASA will receive enough funding to implement President Bush's wish to send astronauts to the moon and Mars.

Oklahoma house found filled with 20,000 bees, much to homeowners' surprise.

Babe of the Day: 80s-flashback blond chick. Normally, I can't fucking stand the bizarre 80s-throwback thing going on in fashion, but she pulls it off.

Thank god they're finally going after the real threat to society.

Hmmm, 5 seconds. Step 1 burn content of volitaile CD onto regular non-volitaile $.02 CD. Step 2 continue burning using that CD as my "master" and enjoy.

Besides, they are still violating the definition of fair use. In the spirit of fair use you usually...
1. make a backup of the original
2. file away the original and use the backed up version
3. when said backed up version (breaks/scratch/etc) I can make a replacement backup granted I destroy or discard the current backup so that I only have one backup at any given time.

This technology doesn't let me do step 3. Corporations suck again.
