Places of Food [SLC]

House of Tibet - tibetian
1300 South and State right by CompuTech...

Really awesome place to grab a lunch, they have all you can eat buffet from 12 - 2:30, i think it's way underrated...

Barbacoa - mexican
9th and 9th...

Quality buritos, little pricey but hot sauce makes it worth.

Rasputin - russian
9th E and about 2100 S...

Good russian food, worth checking out once, getting soup is highly recommended.

A good Italian place to eat.

One of the better Italian places to get a bite to eat is Fresco's

Fresco Italian Cafe
1513 S 1500 E
SALT LAKE CITY UT 84105-2809
(801) 486-1300

The food is great, however it is pricey and you will need to place reservations. Another thing is that it is hard to see. There are vines covering the sign that is above the walkway to their restaurant. Their specials always seem to be good.

Thumbs up

I have to give the Applebees at 5600 S. and Redwood Rd. a thumbs up. The staff there is friendly, the store is clean, and they understand English.

Smile Litza's Pizza

My favorite pizza of all! Crust a bit on the thin, chewy side. But not crispy. All other ingredients are quality, too. Get special combination or vegetarian style on one side and Canadian bacon and pineapple on the other

Don't forget to order a salad and garlic bread, too. Get the Italian dressing. They use red wine vinegar in it Get some extra dressing for dipping the garlic bread and pizza crusts.

But don't forget one thing. This place doesn't serve beer. So if you need to drink beer when you eat pizza, takeout is available, too.

Smile Greek Souvlaki #1

Get the chincken and dolmathes plate. You get:
1. A salad. But one time when they had egg lemon soup, I
asked to substitute that and they let me. Nice when it's cold
outside.
2. Dolmathes (stuffed grape leaves) If I remember correctly, you
get three.
3. Marinated chicken on a skewer with slices of zucchini and
chunks of onion.
4. A nice big, warm, soft pita bread thingie.
5. Some of that yogurt sauce with the garlic, mint, and chopped
cucumber in it. I dip bread, chicken, and dolmathes in that.

Or get the souvlaki in pita. It's marinated pork in a pita with some tomato and onion and yogurt sauce.

Also, order a baklava or some rice pudding for dessert.

chinese

I recently went to the chinese gourmet on 45s and state and found it quite enjoyable. Avoid the eggrolls they aren't that good.

Overall a nice meal.

adept food megapost

I am known for my love of Barbacoa. That hot sauce is so damn good. I like both chicken and steak on tacos or burritos. The rice in the burritos is very good. The chips have a great lime taste. I eat there too much.

Sexy sexy adept barbacoa burrito:
Chicken
Pinto Beans
Cheese
Lots of Hot Sauce (I don't have much respect for mild or medium)
Sour Cream
Lettuce

Plus two sides of hot sauce, chips, and water. The burritos cost ~$5.5. This is a huge amount of food yet I lose all control and inhale it. I need to stay away from Barbacoa for health reasons.

Locations for Barbacoa:
9th&9th
2300E 37xxS

I go to Guru's for lunch sometimes, I love the Blackened Halibut Rice bowl there, especially the crushed pepper sauce. The Blackened Chicken Caesar salad is pretty good too. I think their mexican menu is a bit weak, I try stuff from it every once in awhile. The burrito has a boring flavor, the cheese on the quesadilla is far too mild. On many of the menus there is a half and full size; The half size always fills me up. They have chai tea packages, I like that stuff. $5-8 for an entree.

A couple Guru's locations:
9th&9th
Fort Union & 9th E

I got to Barbacoa right after they closed tonight (9pm?!?!), and ended up trying something new. I heard about Red Butte Cafe from somewhere, but I can't remember where. This is a southwestern cuisine restaurant. The ambience is very nice in here, it is comfortable and friendly. The guy serving me at the bar seemed genuinely nice, and even knew when to stfu! The menu has sandwiches, basic southwest/mexican entrees, and great desserts. I went with steak tacos with avocado, and strawberry kiwi poppyseed cake for dessert. There were a lot of things I wanted to try so I'm sure I'll be back. I'm not sure how much everything cost individually but it was $13.x altogether with a lemonade.

Red Butte Cafe:
That big Foothill Blvd shopping place (near Dan's grocery)

had a chance to try Wasabi Sushi at 9th and 9th recently.

The fish seemed fresh with no hint of being old.

The prices were quite reasonable. I had two basic rolls and an order of inari and the tab came to just over $11.

I would recomend getting an order to go unless you don't mind sitting outside of in the rather small and cramped dining area. Only about 15 seats inside.

Didn't look, but in retrospect, I don't think that they had a liquor licence, so no saki here.

http://www.wasabitogo.com/ has menu's and more info.

-------

I still stand by my recomendation of Ginza near the salt palace, but if you are near 9th and 9th, this is some great sushi.

not really a biz

This isn't really a business but at the Farmers Market Downtown last Sat. I got some Wasabi covered soynuts that kick ass! Spicy but oohh so good! I also discovered a small local bbq sauce company that has some great bbq sauce, I recommend both!

2 more good places

ok a bunch of new resteraunts have gone up by my wife's work on state street. 2 of them are really good. Mimi's Cafe and Baja Fresh. Mimi's serves new orleans style food and is excellent! Baja fresh is a taco/burrito place. Despite the non english speaking workers the food is fresh and quite good.

Burritos

I LOVE burritos! I have been to most of the places recommended, I agree that Barbacoa being good. But Cafe Rio is where its at! Despite the crowds and waiting in line at peak times, it is worth the wait. They have (as far as I'm concerned) the BEST burritos, big, full of good meat and beans and rice, and go enchalada style for the full effect. Its lovin' in a torrtilla!!!
