Heh. You caught a BNE sticker and a BNE tag on there. BNE stickers absolutely cover Amsterdam. Maybe I just haven't noticed them before, but I'm pretty sure this is a pretty recent outbreak. I always wondered what they meant. Googling just now I find a news item about it, dating Sept. 2006. Apparently, it's still not quite clear what it means, but some folks at a dutch graff forum seem pretty sure that they are by Benet. They also posted this:



A huge roller near the edge of Amsterdam that I know quite well...

It's like it represents a bunch of people looking for BNE, and he'll top it off with his signature. Who knows? I think I will tune in that night and see if things do go up for sale, but $500 is steep. It makes me wonder how many will be sold. On another note, there was a BNE piece in San Francisco and the letters and style while quite plain looked almost identicle to the Benet photo you included.

I also saw a lot of "BEZET" or maybe "BENET" things on the sidewalks. Looked like they were done with yellow masking tape or something. Weird.

"bezet" means "occupied"... this is for queensday, a national holiday were (aside from partying and drinking lots of beer) people get to sell their second hand or homemade stuff... The entire centre of Amsterdam is turned into one huge marketplace and everybody is trying to get the best spot, which results in people claiming a bit of (public) street beforehand...
