Markers & Ink

Seems like right now, Slay might be the only one to throw up some answers or suggestions but I hope this can entice others.

So I'm finally thinkin of making my own marker/mop. Right now, I couldn't give a shit about how much it stains, I just want to have somewhat of a unique flavor to it.

For some reason (prolly 'coz it seems cheaper than inks), I want to use oil-based paint but still be able to have a fairly small nib on it (quarter of an inch squared or smaller). Maybe it's my thinking that using paint will put up a dark and solid tag with no streaks/dry smears in it. Drips ain't really my deal either, so using too much thinner a la Krink would kinda suck. Also, I'm hoping to throw some Pearl-Ex to give it a shimmery finish.

As far as the actual mop goes, I suppose I'll have to experiment. Plenty of containers to be found (glass chalk, shoe polish, chap-stick, deodorant, glue stick, envelope-wetters, anything squeezable) so no problem there. People talking about using chalk/white board erasers, felt, and sponges for nibs; just doesn't seem like paint would flow through those. Dunno, guess I gotta get out and do it.

So to almost simplify things, anyone willing to share their own preferences for this type of stuff?

go to http://www.stencilrevolution.com/forum

then go to the tutorials page...you can find a very lengthy thread about different ways to make your own markers....any questions you have will be answered there for sure.....I'll give a direct link later, but for some reason the site is down at the moment

Hm, didn't think of going to stencil revolution. I browsed a couple of threads on 12oz to gets me some ideas but there were no flicks and tons of bullshit on there as well.

Just posted here to see what established heads were using but yeah, I'm gonna stick to them threads. Thanks for the heads-up, though.

Haha, that was the exact thread I was lookin at. It definately helped me a bit, especially in the respect of what a chapstick marker can do.

The only real questions I had was a ballpark mixture of paint to thinner and how exactly to fill up a chapstick mop, but I found those answers through searching deep on 12oz.

Homemade markers are the shit, Im workin on making a one out of a deoderant stick, gona have a hella fat line with that one. And I think I'ma try that chapstick marker idea, cause that wil be a nice small one for on the go purposes. Good Links, I briefly checked em out. Also, I saw that they had some recipes for inks, is there any type of ink you can make out of somewhat ordinary household items or would I just be better off heading up to reules (or however you spell it) and getting pilot ink?

you can make krink out of silver paint, break fluid, and some thinner. There are loads of ways to make ink out of household products.....but reules would do if your lazy/have the $$$
