AT&T tilt & modifications
How to remove the AT&T tilt bloatware:
I discovered this by accident, but I suggest you do it before you do anything else to your phone. After you do a hard reset and Windows Mobile finishes its initial setup a little screen pops up and says something like Customizing Software will begin in 5 seconds. Well before the countdown finishes, stick your stylus in the hole and do a soft reset and the bloatware will not be installed. Note: If you use something like Sprite Backup for backing your phone up, you will have to repeat the above process before doing a restore, otherwise the bloatware will reappear. How to remap the PTT button on the AT&T tilt: First you need to have a registry editor, a good registry editor is PHM Registry Editor and it is free. Afteryou have this installed go to 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE' and browse down to services. Expand the group and completely delete 'PTT'. After you have deleted 'PTT' go down to 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys' highlight the word 'Keys' then chose 'Edit' and choose 'New Key'. Call the new key '40C6'. Now highlight the new key (40C6), go to 'Edit' and choose 'New String Value' For the 'Value name' of this new key put 'NAME' and for the 'Value data' put 'Button 6' If you want to create a second mapping so that the button has a different function when you hold it down add the following. 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys' highlight the word 'Keys' then chose 'Edit' and choose 'New Key'. Call the new key '40C7'. Now highlight the new key (40C7), go to 'Edit' and choose 'New String Value' For the 'Value name' of this new key put 'NAME' and for the 'Value data' put 'Button 6 (Hold)' Note: In the value data of the new keys that you created you can call them anything you would like, but I called them the above to keep them uniform with the button names. Also since I like to redo my phone a lot and I hate editing the registry each time, I have attached the reg files. You can use them if you want, and after you install them if you don't use the same functions you can just choose a different one from the Settings\Personal\Buttons menu. How to make the keyboard light stay on longer on the AT&T tilt: I love the Tilt but the keyboard light turns off far to quick for my taste so I changed it to 3 minutes. Once again if you don't want to edit your registry I enclosed the reg file that you just need to run. If 3 minutes is too long, drop me a line and I will make you a custom one. Once again you will need a registry editor. Go to 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight\' once there look for a key at the bottom called 'QKeyLedTimeout' and click on it. The only thing you want to change here is the 'Value data' it is in seconds, so choose how long you want the keyboard light to stay on and click 'OK'. How to stop the SMS sent message from displaying a popup and vibrating on the AT&T tilt: Another annoying thing I found with AT&T's tilt is the sent SMS notification. I don't need my phone vibrating and popping up a notification that I just sent a message - I know I sent the damn thing. How to stop sent SMS message alerts: Go in to the registry and find the following key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\' and highlight 'Inbox' go to 'Edit' and choose 'New Key' label this new key 'Settings'. Now in 'Settings go to 'Edit' again and choose 'New String Value'. For the 'Value name' put 'SMSNoSentMSG' and for the 'Value data' put '1'. Save it and you are done. Once again the reg file can be downloaded below.
