The Grudge
Viewed: 10-24-04
Synopsis: Japanese and Americans are sucked in by a Japanese "Grudge" haunting.
Review: Well, I wish I could tell you this was as good as the Ring (being someone who is aware there is a Japanese original Ringu), but it wasn't. The effects were very similar. Like everything Japanese, it's copied from someone else and tweaked. Just like most anime looks like anime with artists having their subtle differences, so it was with the Grudge in comparison with The Ring. The main difference here being that it was directed by a Japanese, set in Japan with mainly American actors. Looks like the Raimi family (Evil Dead, Spiderman, Xena, Hercules, etc.) went nuts after they saw The Ring and wanted to do get involved with something similar.
Like I said, good effects...may give you the creeps, but it lacked in story, momentum, some poor acting and it kind of leaves you hanging.
